Carbon monoxide
Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas produced when natural gas, coal, oil and wood are burned in a restricted oxygen supply as can occur in faulty heating appliances. The gas distribution networks have carried out awareness campaigns independently and with community and voluntary groups. However recently the GDNs have been considering options for a joint campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide among the UK population.
The companies have produced an all-fuels carbon monoxide leaflet, which they will leave with customers when they visit. This shows what consumers can do to protect themselves from carbon monoxide and what action they should take if they suspect a carbon monoxide incident.
The gas distribution networks have submitted other options to the energy regulator Ofgem .
Carbon Monoxide Consumer Awareness Alliance
The Carbon Monoxide Consumer Awareness Alliance (COCAA) is a group of organisations that have an interest in ensuring the public is aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning and how to keep themselves safe. ENA is a member of the COCAA steering group, where we help to drive strategy and co-ordination of carbon monoxide awareness-raising activities across the industry.
